Welcome to Our Programs
At the Office of Emergency Communications, we are dedicated to enhancing emergency communication systems and promoting interoperability across Wisconsin. Our programs play a critical role in ensuring seamless communication during emergencies and supporting public safety. Below, youโll find information about our key programs and initiatives:
Interoperability
Our Interoperability program focuses on developing and implementing communication strategies that allow different systems and agencies to work together effectively. This program is essential for coordinating responses across various jurisdictions and ensuring that all public safety entities can communicate during emergencies.
WISCOM
The Wisconsin Statewide Communication System (WISCOM) provides a unified radio communication network for public safety agencies throughout the state. WISCOM enhances coordination and improves response times by enabling reliable, statewide communication for law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services.
NextGen 9-1-1 in Wisconsin
Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) represents a significant advancement in emergency call handling. This program is working to transition Wisconsinโs 9-1-1 system to a more modern, digital platform that supports text, video, and other data types, enhancing the ability of emergency responders to receive and process critical information quickly.
Wisconsin Public Safety Broadband
Our Public Safety Broadband program aims to provide a dedicated, high-speed network for public safety communications. This program ensures that emergency responders have access to reliable and fast data services, which are crucial for modern emergency response operations.
Interoperability/Land Mobile Radio
The Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Program supports the development and maintenance of radio systems used by public safety agencies. The Communications Unit Workgroup (COMU WG) within this program focuses on improving radio communications and providing training and resources to enhance field operations.
