MADISON, Wis. – The state of Wisconsin has been awarded a $2.9 million grant by the U.S Department of Transportation and U.S. Department of Commerce to help local public safety answering points (PSAPs) purchase needed equipment to upgrade to Next Generation 911 (NextGen 9-1-1).
The Office of Emergency Communications (OEC), part of the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, provides program management for the implementation of the statewide emergency services IP-based network (ESInet) and applied for the federal grant earlier this year.
In an effort to help streamline the application process, OEC has developed grant guidance that can be used by PSAPs to start preparing their local applications for federal grant funding. The grant guidance includes information on application requirements, anticipated timelines, and allowable expenses for the Federal 9-1-1 Grant Program.
